    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Interesting experience, learned a lot of useful skills and had the unique opportunity to network both with graduate analysts and with senior professionals like executive directors or managing directors. We had various social events and community events which were nice.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The fact that I had unique opportunity to network both with graduate analysts and with senior professionals like executive directors or managing directors makes me feel really valued. I wish there were considerably more opportunities to get advice from senior people.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My mentor gave me a lot of useful advice and passed on words of wisdom as to what will be the best next step in my professional career. We discussed whether i should go and study further or start a job in the financial industry straight away. I found this very useful.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was quite busy with a lot of daily tasks to be done. However, it largely depends on the type of desk you are. For example in the financial markets division, trading teams usually require a lot of concentration during the day and many small ad hoc type of tasks.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It largely depends on the type of desk you are. For example in the financial markets division, trading teams usually require a lot of concentration during the day and many small ad hoc type of tasks. On a research/strucutring desk on the floor you get more long term projects.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Interesting experience, learned a lot of useful skills and the training was very relevant. I wish it was more comprehensive and longer rather than just 2-3 days. Anyway, the desk training that you get by people working in the industry is equally if not more important than academics.
