I enjoyed working at Nomura, and have returned again this year. I did not give them full stars because like any job there are bits that one finds dull and boring. The best bit is the atmosphere everyone is friendly and happy. I would recommend Nomura in London, especially now that there is a new building on the Themes right next to London Bridge. It's amazing and the food hall is amazing!! Everything from fresh pizza, sushi, Indian, british food etc at low prices. :D
Working with the people at Nomura was probably the best part of my Internship, everyone there was friendly and easy to talk to. I got along with them really well, they even took me out despite being significantly younger than most. In the department I worked in, multiple times a week people would bring in boxes of donuts, chocolate, sweets and more. Amazing :)!
As I was working with complex contracts, I often had questions and found problems. It was easy to go to my supervisor to ask how to do stuff, I had to do it multiple times a day. If she was unavailable I would just ask other staff as everyone was willing to help. The supervisor took me to a couple of important Vendor meetings, so that I could experience meetings and negotiation.
I originally planned to stay at Nomura for 4 weeks, I managed to fly though the workload in the first week and a half. So I ended up taking work from other parts of the department to keep me busy. Though they asked me to stay on an extra 2 week, but I did only one as I had other commitments.
I was working with highly confidential contracts, and could access them at will. They trusted me with them fairly quickly, I was expected to get on with my work and ask for help if I needed it. I was fairly free to do what I wanted at what time. I often had multiple jobs running at once, so it would not get boring.
I learnt a lot at Nomura and enjoyed it. One major skill I learnt is organisation, as losing contracts is not an option. Though I've noticed I have not changed at home. haha. It has boosted my confidence, making me speak to people I would have maybe avoided before. Got practice on the phone which was helpful for me. As I mentioned above I went to a couple of meetings and witnessed negotiations which may help me in the future. Furthered my knowledge on excel and powerpoint. Etc..
As said before the people are really jolly and helpful. Always bringing in food to share, and there is always time for a chat or laugh. :)
The placement was well organised, I was put in contact with the person who would be looking after me, where I organised the rest with her.
They took me to meetings, a girl taught me to use a software for over two hours despite it having nothing to do with my job. They were going out of their way to give me free lessons to help develop my skills.
Subsidised Canteen
As I mentioned before I have returned to the Nomura for another Internship as I enjoyed it so much the first time. I would be more than happy to work there after university if they would have me :)
Well I only knew one other placement student, and well I would describe him as the anti-social type. Though the my colleges, took me out twice for drinks after works, had a good laugh :)
Not sure how to star rate this answer? lol Well I was fortunate that my dad knew someone living in London who would let me stay at their place for free. As its London I its obviously going to be really expensive for accommodation and socialising. At least the museums are free, lol
Its London, what else can I say?
London is packed with stuff, so yea there are more than enough opportunities to get involved in something other than work.
