    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my time at Aon, I was given a lot of responsibility early on and everyone in the team was very welcoming and supportive. I learnt a huge amount about the company and the department I was working on that I will be able to apply in my future career.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was treated like an equal member of the team and not just an intern. Everyone was very supportive, approachable, and happy to help me whenever I needed it. Feedback from colleagues showed that they really valued my contribution to the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a line-manager within my department for the duration of the internship who was always on hand to answer questions, provide support and give me work. A mid-point review process helped to keep me on track and gave me areas of improvement to focus on.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I never felt overwhelmed by the amount of work given to me, however I also always had something to do. If ever I had a free moment I would ask for work from my manager or a member of my team.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility from day 1. As the internship progressed I was given more responsibility as my knowledge of the industry improved, and by the end of the 9 week I was completing work for senior consultants. I was able to work independently, and trusted to produce work by myself.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and training that I received have been hugely beneficial for both university and my future career. Working in pensions improved my data manipulation and excel skills, in addition to my time management and organisation. Communicating with employees across the entire business enabled me to develop a business style of writing, particularly when sending emails or compiling reports.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Compared to London, the office was smaller and more relaxed, and the dress code reflected this. However, it was still a very professional environment. People seemed friendly and approachable.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised, with the early careers team regularly contacting us with updates prior to our start date. The 2 day induction at the beginning of the internship allowed us all to meet the other interns and learn about our charity project for the next 9 weeks, which we completed in addition to office work.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My manager spent a lot of time answering my questions and providing support and feedback. I was also able to gain experience within different departments and learn more about the business overall.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have just finished my internship and hope to receive an offer of a graduate placement. The grad scheme appears well organised and aimed at long term career development, with positive feedback from graduates in the office.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As there were only 3 interns at the Farnborough office there wasn't much of a social scene, however whenever we were in London we would socialise with the other interns at the London office, where most people were located.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Farnborough prices were much more reasonable than compared to London.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There wasn't much of a nightlife in Farnborough as it is a small town and most colleagues went home at the end of the day. There were a few small pubs and bars that people would go to.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There wasn't a lot of opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work.

    2/5
