    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This job was probably the single most rewarding role I have undertaken for my personal development and chance of future employment. The techniques I learnt can be applied to any and every profession and situation possible. The job itself is a difficult and tiring job, but I found that by challenging myself and pushing my limits, I discovered my real potential.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The people I worked with are now among my best friends from the first years I managed to my managers and upward. I can say without doubt that my 2 mentors through the job, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], will be the most helpful people towards my personal development in my life due to the effort they made to help me improve in all aspects and the time they took to sit down, listen and advise me personally.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • As I have said previously, I can not rate my managers more highly. Southwestern pride themselves on bringing out the true potential in people and this mentally means that the managers are fantastic people to be trained by and to be around especially [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It is a busy job and one major thing you need to learn is how to manage your time properly and effectively. Sometimes, I did struggle with the workload, but that was my choice to keep pushing my limits and to do as much work as possible. It is a commision based job and therefore the big money goes to the people who are willing to be busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It was solely my business and I was responsible for every aspect of it, but help was always there if you needed it or if I was going a bit off the rails. It was the perfect amount of control to learn and still excel.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As I have said before, I do believe the skills I learnt during my internship were among the most useful skills I will learn during my lifetime with regards to personal motivation, management of time and people, sales and rapport building skills, business and financial management and plain old hard work. I have had countless times after my placement where I have used these skills and I believe my employability has incresed immeasurably.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was incredibly fun nearly all the time and the people you are with make it even better. We have daily silly competitions and the sunday meetings are always a great laugh.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • They have been in operation for over 150 years and everything is down to a t.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The time, effort and money that they invested was incredible and I have seen parts of the world, had experiences and learnt things I wouldn't have done in any other job I can imagine.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • For me, I will be using the skills I gained to move back into my sector in consultancy and excel, so I will most liekly be not working for them again, however this was always the plan.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We definately worked hard and played hard afterwards with all the money we made.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • We generally worked really hard to get costs down and america is a lot cheaper than england to live. Plus, all the expenses should be covered by your sales so it doesn't actually cost anything if you are doing well.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Please leave a comment on this question...

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We had a very full schedule during the summer, but around that there were a very good amount and my work friends are always up for nights out and adventures.
