    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thouroughly enjoyed my placement with the firm. A lot of time and effort is spent by the firm trying to ensure this. The scheme had a good blend of hard work, training and socialising.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt as valued as I could have been for a placement student. Although the work I was doing was not particularly complex or important, it nevertheless needed to be done. My colleagues recogised this and were grateful for my contribution.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisors and/or trainee buddies were always available to talk to for assistance and were extremely approacheable. In addition, no matter who had given me a piece of work, they were willing to spend some time with me if I had any problems.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had tasks to do throughout the two weeks. This could have been work set by other solicitors at the firm, preparation for some of the skills sessions put on by graduate recruitment or just preparing for my partner interview which was on the final day of the scheme.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I would not say I received a great deal of responsibility during my two weeks but I do not think this would be different at any other firm. CMS Cameron McKenna is a top city law firm with an extremely good reputation. It would be irresponsible to allow a two week vacation scheme student tarnish this.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that I have benefited from all of the work I carried out at the firm. The legal research I conducted and the methods use to do this will be of use throughout my career. I also hope the skills I developed in the negotiation exercise will be of use to me in the future.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The firm has a brilliant atmosphere. Everybody is genuinely down to earth and approacheable. It appears that everyone is happy in their job which is comforting. On serveral occasions I needed to speak with trainees who shared offices with partners. These partners were always happy for me to enter the office and made conversation with me which I particularly enjoyed.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • A lot of time is spet by graduate recruitment in developing the vacation scheme programme and this definately shows. The amount of presentations we had from different parts of the firm as well as the social events were extremely well organised.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • During the vacation scheme the firm organised skills sessions focusing on negotiation and presentations. This was a very worthwhile investment by the firm over and above what other firms do.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The firm offers everything possible to somebody who wants to spend their career with a large city law firm. Great training, great people, great support and a greater choice of potential specialisms.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All of the vacation students went out for drinks over the two weeks.

  • 4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was not a great deal of activities for vacation scheme students although this is completely different if you are at the firm on a full time basis.
