About You
The vacation scheme was insightful, and gave a realistic overview of the nature of work you shall be involved in as a Trainee.
Due to the low intake of vacation scheme students, all the help available would be appreciated. However, this does also mean that any mistakes will be quickly picked up on,
The supervisors, and the trainee 'buddys' are there to support you. It may seem daunting at first, but they will teach you anything that you may not have come across.
Writing succinctly, and straight to the point. You will learn to cut the unnecessary lingo when writing a memo for a supervisor, or Partner. You will be surprised how important it is to write well.
The Company
The vacations scheme had a clear structure. The timetable was provided to us at the start of the scheme, and we were allowed to plan accordingly.
Very intimate, and engaging. I would recommend it to those that love the fast paced nature of work.
They brought in a client to talk to you, associates to explain the work they are involved in, and trainees to discuss the typical tasks that they completing. Additionally, we had a meeting with the managing partner, ***Nick Buckworth***, explaining the firm from his perspective.
They make everything clear from day 1.
You spend two weeks at the firm. I say, from day two you can quickly grasp whether this firm is for you or not. Since it is a relatively small sized office, you will sooner or later know quite a lot of Shearman & Sterling lawyers.
They provide a great insight in the type of work they are involved in, and whether this is the right career path for you.
Everything Else
They pay you £350 a week.
Every day is a network day.
Very intimate, and engaging. Highly recommend it.
You manage to find this out by simply talking to the employees during lunch, or just general conversations.
If you want to work in a top City law firm, of course.
