    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work that I was given was very interesting and I was able to use my knowledge and express my opinions through the work that I did.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the first day I felt a valued member of my team. The work I was completing was critical to the teams function and the other members of the team were helpful and inclusive

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager as a first port of call was supportive and receptive to me wanting to redirect my roll. In addition I had a graduate buddy that I could talk to about any issue and a supervisor who I could rely on for any other questions.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On occasion I found myself a little too busy but with correct time management I found a good balance. When I found myself with work that I would not have been able to complete in time my manager happily took some of my responsibilities.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had a good level of responsibility however always had the safety net of my manager checking the work I had completed.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Beyond the technical competence that I have obtained I feel far better prepared to work in an office environment through improved organisation, communication and time management skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My team have always been extremely friendly and fun to work with as we treat each other with respect but also socialise with each other outside of work. The whole office is very friendly and everyone is willing to help you out and explain things to you.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The staff that coordinated the placement cant be commended sufficiently. The placement started with an introduction day where we found out all about the company and the job prospects that are available on the back of the placement. Then throughout the internship there were senior speakers arranged to discover more about the company. In addition to the information sessions there were a couple of social events where food and drinks were provided.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had a number of roll specific training in addition to the standard company training however had I had a desire to learn more I could have easily enrolled in a number of extra courses.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The intention for this internship is to offer a permanent place on the graduate scheme to everyone that performs to a reasonable standard. Through the internship I had weekly meetings with my manager where I was given an idea as to how well I was performing and then on the last day we were told weather we would be offered the full time roll.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It was very easy to make friends with the fellow placement students as there were a number of social events and the majority of students lived during the internship.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living and drinking costs were ok. However as Surrey is a summer destination shot term lettings meant you might be paying a little more.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife is not the best however there is certainly a good number of options for what to do in the evening

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were numerous opportunities to activities outside of work that is organised through work in addition to a host of other activities in the area.
