The Role
The company give you genuine roles with real responsibility. This can seem quite daunting at first however they give you all the support you require, meaning you develop as an individual and gain real value from your work placement.
As I've already said, I was given a real role within the organisation and treated as any other colleague would be.
At times I was encouraged to complete tasks by myself and then learn from any mistakes I made. However, generally speaking, the company were more than willing to offer support with any issue I had; big or small
Work loads do fluctuate however this is due to the nature of the industry. The general pattern is a peak work load over the Christmas period, which then eases off from February onwards.
At times I really was the only manager on site and running the show. As I've said though, the company build you up to this at your own pace.
My people management skills have improved significantly, which can be transferred into any working environment.
The Company
Everyone was good fun and the working environment was quite relaxed. Of course, the workforce are still very professional and when the peak period came and the workload was challenging, everyone became much more focused and serious; this was necessary to maintain a high standard of service for our customer.
At times plans changed without much warning but generally my development followed the plan I was given during my induction week.
I can't comment fully on this as I have not quite completed my placement. However, the company are keen to give you exposure to all areas of the organisation. I also know that the previous placement student was conditionally offered a graduate job for when he completed his final year of university.
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Financial Bonus
As stated, the previous placement student was offered a graduate job on completion of his placement. I cannot fully comment as I still have a few months of my placement remaining.
The Culture
There were three other graduates placed at my site and we socialised regularly at weekends in Glasgow.
The place where I actually worked was relatively cheap but I decided to live in Glasgow. This cost me more in rent but the social side was more active.
Again, very little where I actually worked but Glasgow is only a 30min drive from Cumbernauld and there is loads happening in Glasgow.
The company organised 7-a-side football every Monday night.
