    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • At times really hard work but you get out what you put in and on the whole i had a fantastic time working at GIST.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Got on really well with everyone, both in my depot and also contacts at head office.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Due to how busy the site was when i first started my plan perhaps could have been better managed but after a while i just threw myself into anything! Support from the placement officer at head office is exellent.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • If you dont want to work incredibly long hours at very unsocial times then this is not the placement for you.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • To think you are only a 'placement' student to be in control of 150 people after your first couple of months is an example of the level of responsibility. On a daily basis you are in contact with high level managers and are trusted with millions of pounds worth of stock each shift.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • For me this placement has helped me no end. I now, with the references i have from both University visits, managers and HR much better prospects of a graduate level position at any company. I expect my placement will assist me write my dissertation final year as i now have much better industry knowledge to be able to refer too.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • At times very stressful but on the whole an exellent place to work. I had a fantasic relationship with most of the staff both on a proffessional and social level.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The team at head office are very well organised and will really look after you. The only part for me which was a little unclear was what exactly my role was when i first started but after a few weeks this soon became much clearer.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • GIST take care of their graduates. They are looking for future business leaders and expect the very best. In return they will reward you.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • As a placement student the expectation is that (if it is for you and they feel you are good enough) to go onto the graduate scheme after completion of your degree. As a placement student you are very much in the limelight and not merely the helping hand for the year. Expection is very high mind.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • For me very much so. The area isnt the most appealing but you make the best of what you have!

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not too bad, especially concidering its only half an hour outside of London

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Some very nice places but you have to know where to look. Plently of options plus London is on the doorstep if you willing to do the travelling.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not many from work but for me this wasnt an issue.

    4/5
