    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a fantastic time on placement with Baxter Healthcare. The opportunities given to their placement students are extremely beneficial. From training and development to exploring areas of the business you didn't think you'd see in your job role... All you had to do was ask and you were often able to take such opportunities.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The majority of my colleagues at Baxter are very supportive of the placement scheme and wouldn't treat the students any differently to full time members of staff. Occasionally asked to do jobs that weren't linked to my job role (maybe because I was in a student role), but I didn't see this as a bad thing as any additional work/jobs enabled me to learn/develop further.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Weekly 1 to 1's with my manage to help manage my day to day/weekly workload.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days you are busy 9-5 with little time to yourself, however this is a good thing as the days go a lot more slowly on the days that there is less to do. Everyone does tend to leave around 5pm though so you are not expected to work too late very often which is good.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Fully integrated in to the Team - given responsibility for my own projects and allowed to run with these without too much supervision.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training I received during my placement year has given me plenty to reflect on moving back to Univerisity for the final stages of my degree. It will also help me when applying to roles post-univeristy.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Positive on the whole. Occasionally if large members of the team are out it can be a bit quiet but this is the ideal time to crack a to-do list!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My personal experience has been very good. I think there could be a little more support at the start (support that isn't reliant on meeting random members of the organisaion or the previous students talking through projects over and over). It would be nice for the students to visit more of the Baxter sites or to spend more time with various members of the organisation (sales, marketing, evolving health etc.)

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invest a lot - and it's up to you to take/get enrolled on whatever you want to. Just ask!!

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    Healthcare from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing - Baxter have a Graduate scheme that is open to all of its Placement students

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Due to location there is little to do socially in the evenings after work. There is a socially committee that arranges trips and days out but not everyone attends.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living from 400-500ppm Socialising (not too expensive depending on where you visit)

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • In the town we work - non-existant. In nearby towns, Reading and Newbury - not bad

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Occasional social events and volunteering events

    2/5
