    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall, I have really enjoyed my placement year. I have definitley learnt a lot over the past year and the experience has definitley helped me in trying to make a career decision for when I graduate.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I worked in a team with 7 other people who are all very friendly and who I got on with very well. Everyone was very patient and I could always ask questions if there was something I did not understand or had any concerns about. I felt like a valued member of the team not just like an intern.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had bi-weekly meetings with my manager to catch up on my progress and to discuss the projects I was working on. My manager was in general very helpful and always willing to help me and also always knew what was going on and what I was currently working on.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It took quite a while for me to become busy at work, the first few months were a bit boring and slightly unorganised. This was partially caused by an early manager change as my old manager moved away to a different site. However, if I was bored it was easy for me to just speak to my manager and he would give me more work as quickly as possible.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was not given as much responsibility as I had hoped for. However this is understandable as pharmaceuticals are a very regulated industry sector and everything is very strongly regulated and strict procedures have to be followed at all times.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am pretty sure that over the last year I have learnt more than I have at University during my first two years.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Most people in my office were very friendly and sociable, we had several office parties which were a lot of fun and everyone was easy to get on with.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation beforehand all went pretty well. My contact gave me all the information I needed and I was quite aware of what I would be doing on placement.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My manager spent a lot of time with me developing a plan for me to develop the skills I wanted to improve.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The GSK Graduate scheme seems to be very interesting and appealing. I would definitley be interested in working for the company after I graduate.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • On site there was 20 placement students which all knew each other quite well by the end of the year. We often met up over the weekend and most of us also shared houses.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Rent was reasonable

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Worthing itself was pretty dull, however Brighton which is only a 15 minute train ride away is very good.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Many sport clubs in the area

    5/5
