The Role
It was a lot of work, but learned a lot so it was great.
I felt that in one project, I wasn't given important tasks, while in the other project I felt that they trusted me enough to help with some more relevant work.
You're expected to do your own tasks so you're independent for the most part. If you need help, you try to schedule a meeting with an engineer or supervisor to get a few tips, but they don't babysit you.
Up and down, but you usually have just enough on your plate. Sometimes you're a bit too busy though...
I felt that in one project, I wasn't given important tasks, while in the other project I felt that they trusted me enough to help with some more relevant work.
It was my first workterm dealing with projects, so it was definitely a great experience. Improved my communication skills, and learned a lot about the oil & gas industry from an operator's point of view.
The Company
It was always busy, but people a good sense of humor which made the days pass by a bit easier.
Very well structured program with the company.
They trained me for going offshore, gave lots of safety and environmental training, got safety clothes (boots, coveralls, etc...) and even paid for a three-day trip across Canada to witness a vendor visit. They also tried hard to get me to visit offshore, but wasn't able to due to other reasons.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
It's a possibility. They hire many more co-ops than full-time engineers a year, so there's lots of competition.
The Culture
Everybody was busy with their work, went out for group lunches once or twice but that was about it.
Small city, so it's relatively cheap.
A curling game once a week was a notable item, and a few things they did for fundraising.
