    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the vacation scheme. It exceeded my expectations, having completed a vacation scheme elsewhere before. After 2 weeks, I felt like I had been able to pursue all of my interests in the firm, meet a wide range of people and learn a great deal about Taylor Wessing.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • My contribution to the firm was well recognised by the people I worked with. I was often given feedback on my work and appraised for a number of tasks. People definitely took note of my presence in the firm and were willing to have conversations to get to know me. At the end of each week, my supervisor and I had a review meeting, which was a great way of realising how much my work had been valued by the wider team.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I was often reminded by graduate recruitment of upcoming events and vacation scheme tasks. We also had a trainee 'Buddy' and a supervisor who were both there to support us if need be. People were also generally very willing to explain in full detail certain matters or legal terminology, which was especially helpful for me as a non-law student.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As a non-law student this scheme really helped me to confirm that law is the profession I want to go into. I enjoyed every task I was given and I'm extremely attracted to Taylor Wessing's training system, along with the types of practices the firm has.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The scheme was exceptionally well structured! There was a good balance between the workload within our practices and other activities, such as preparing for a presentation and attending 'Focus On' sessions. It was also great to sit in two separate practices to gain an understanding of different practice areas. In addition to this, I learned about other practices through the Focus On sessions, so I gained a general and concise overview of the entire firm's practices.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone was extremely positive throughout the two weeks! The firm's open door policy was especially pleasing because it meant everyone was approachable and seemed happy to have the vacation scheme students at the firm.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Through my trainee 'Buddies', I learned a lot about the training and development process at Taylor Wessing. This filtered down even to the vacation scheme students. We were given a student appraisal meeting each week in addition to feedback throughout the scheme, which showed that the firm was committed to fostering our own development. This helped me to also learn a lot about myself and the way I work!

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I was given an abundance of opportunities to shadow trainees and associates. I attended one client meeting, drafted a letter to a client, and engaged in a number of activities. People at the firm were also more than willing to tell me about their experiences working at Taylor Wessing and the type of work they're involved with.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • By spending two weeks at the firm, I was able to truly experience the culture of Taylor Wessing. It is one of the friendliest, most open and diverse firms I've come across. Everyone was extremely approachable and I never felt out of place!

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The scheme confirmed my interest in law and especially my interest in Taylor Wessing. I was given a range of different tasks every day and enjoyed all the work I was given.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid a standard vacation scheme rate, however, this was not enough to cover the expense of living independently in London for a week.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were absolutely plenty of opportunities to meet other people, from sports events to trainee socials and a diversity initiative.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities were a great way of meeting people from other practices and were well attended by trainees, associates and partners. I also attended a diversity event, which was a great chance to meet people outside of the vacation scheme programme.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Definitely! We were invited to a range of activities. Some of the vacation scheme students were able to join trainees at the firm's pro bono involvement, the Blackfriar's Settlement. However, unfortunately there were limited spaces so not everyone could attend. Despite this, it was easy to hear about the range of activities that employees get involved in outside of work.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Absolutely!
