    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • During my time at Hewlett Packard, I have been given a lot of opportunities and responsibilities. The team and other colleagues have helped me wherever possible and have also taught me new skills.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The colleagues have been extremely welcoming. As a global company and many workers being mobile, we have had to heavily depend on e-communication. Even though we have the barrier of not having face to face conversations, colleagues always try to make sure we have met up.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The team has been extremely supportive, especially in terms with my university deadlines. I have weekly meetings with my supervisor to ensure that everything is going smoothly. I can also confidently talk to many members of the team.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It's always fluctuating due to colleagues being on holiday, or the election period etc.. If I had little tasks to do, I would ask around different departments to see what more I can learn.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been able to comfortably organise my time and attend external meetings with no obstructions. The team trusts me and believes I am able to manage my time during work.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have learnt and developed me here at Hewlett Packard has immensely helped me. I'm not too sure to what extent it would help me with my degree studies, but definitely for my future career.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Extremely flexible where people can work from home. Most colleagues are home workers as they are at least 2 hours away from Bracknell. It is more logical to spend the travelling time working instead.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As my role has had interns in the past, it seems to me that it has been well organised. The team are aware that my degree will require certain documents to be completed etc..

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had a 5 weeks handover period with my predecessor. It allowed me to feel comfortable with my tasks etc.. We also had product training etc.. to ensure we were comfortable with what we worked with. Plus, my immediate team was always on Instant Messaging to help with any enquiries.

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have recently had my 48th week review, and it has been extremely positive. The feedback is kept in HR for future references. Plus, another colleague recently asked who my predecessor was, to see whether he would like the opportunity to return.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The intern community had around 60 people in Bracknell alone. This helped find housing and other social events. We were all in the same situation.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Housing + utilities = £365 Cheaper than I expected for a city so close to London

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Busy city with quite a few bars and clubs. If people wanted to, they could easily have a night out in London as there are some trains running after midnight from Paddington to Reading

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was the half marathon, 3 peaks and many other charitable events.
