The Role
I absolutely loved my placement at HBO. I couldn't have had a better year and am so glad i chose to take a placement year here.
I felt extremely valued - your opinion is always wanted, and working in such a small team means you really can have a big input!
My line manager was always there to answer questions and give guidance when i needed it, but i was also allowed to be proactive and just get on with work.
As most of the work revolves around which DVD, Blu-ray or Digital TV show releases, this naturally varies a lot - sometimes (especially around Game of Thrones releases!) i was very busy - but i love being busy so it suited me well and taught me to manage my time well.
I was given an amazing amount of responsibility - i don't know any other company that gives their interns such real responsibility. I was even given the chance to manage an entire campaign towards the end of my placement!
I can't put into words how useful this year has been, and will continue to be when i am looking for employment after university. Working at such a huge, well respected company has meant i really have learnt from the best and developed skills for life.
The Company
Everyone who works here is friendly, great fun & always up for a chat. The office atmosphere is really relaxed and everyone gets on so well - I've definitely made friends for life!
Because there have been so many interns over the years, the placement is really well organised on the whole. You have a handover week with the previous intern, detailed handover notes and inductions with everyone in the office and all the agencies you will be working with.
There are several mandatory training days with the other Warner Bros interns - some are more useful than others but it's great to be provided with these. There are opportunities to take part on training courses (e.g excel) and you have a mid-year review with your manager.

As HBO is quite small here in the UK, there aren't often new roles opening up. However, Warner Bros look favourably on anyone who has worked within TimeWarner, and you make so many useful contacts with people in all aspects of the media industry.
The Culture
There are 50+ interns over at Warner Bros who you will meet, so there are always people going out after work! Colleagues here are also often up for drinks after work, and there are so many once in a lifetime events you have a chance to go to.
The placement is based in Oxford Circus, so naturally being central London it is quite expensive. I rented a flat with friends in a cheaper area around 35 mins tube away, but obviously London will always be more expensive than other cities!
There is so much nightlife around Soho etc, and i was never stuck for places to go out for dinner or drinks after work! It isn't the cheapest but if you search around you can always find something affordable.
Yes, just a matter of signing up to the great opportunities! I took part in a volunteering day at a primary school, have signed up for a 5km company run and there is the chance to go to film screenings at Warner Bros, film/tv premieres and even an awards show.
