The Role
Although not the department that I would have chosen, or the one that I aim to work for in the future, I really enjoyed my placement. It gave me a big insight to not only the part the department plays in the company but also the importance of the work that it does.
I feel extremely valued by my colleagues, they respect my role and the part it plays in the department. They back the decisions that I make and take into consideration the ideas that I come up with.
I was given an average amount of guidance through my job role, there were points where more guidance would have been helpful but this allowed me to develop personal skills related to time management and gave me an opportunity to showcase my own talents.
The workload for a day was extremely varied. Certain days would leave me trying to think of tasks to do as alot of my work was project based and as such required me to wait for other employees to provide me with the information I required. On the other end of the spectrum, towards the end of my placement there were days when I could not complete all the work I had set out to. The good
Although at the start of the placement I was only given a small amount of responsibility, towards the end I was tasked with large projects that had a significant impact on the whole site.
The skills developed on the placement will assist more in the real world than with my degree. I have developed skills more related to computer software than technical knowledge required for my degree. The computer knowledge will, however, give me an edge whe nit comes to applying for jobs in the future.
The Company
The office was only occupied by 5 people at its maximum, more often than not only two or three including myself. The workloads that we recieved meant that we didn't get much opportunity to chat ti each other but there were opportunities.
The start of the placement was set up well, there was a two week handover with previous undergraduates to show us what to do which was a great help. It also helped us to find housing with other undergraduates should we require accomodation.
The company provided both basic and advanced excel training which became very useful towartds the end of the placement. The company scheduled multiple sessions to review my progress and try and organise any training that i thought would be beneficial.

Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
The company offers certain undegraduates who impress them the opportunityto attend an assesment center afeter they finish their final year, however this is only a small amount. There are also many opportunities to switch role to a different department to suit the individual.
The Culture
The majority of undergraduates live together in rented accomodation. There are more than 80 undergraduates and apprentices with a good social aspect. There are often events and parties in the undegraduate community as well as holidays organised by us.
As it is quite near to London the cost of living is slightly higher than what it would normally be for an area like this. It's location does make it easy to travel around to socialise.
The nightlife in the immediate area was average for the location but the travel option mean that it is easy to get to somewhere where the nightlife suits you.
There were multiple internal emails sent offering activities such as rowing, football, golf as well as charity raising event such as the London to Brighton bike ride or the Londom Marathon.
