    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Fantastic company to work for. Members of staff are extremely supportive and accept you as part of the team. Major benefits (discounts, sample sales, training, parties). Very challenging and fun!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Always treated as a core member of the team, while not being expected to be super amazing. Work done is appreciated, and I've always been included in meetings, asked for my opinion and given as much responsibility as any other team member.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whenever I've had a doubt or a question, I've always been steered in the right direction. Objectives are set to better myself inside and outside of work, and anything I've required, either to get my job done or outside of work that might impact how I work have been dealt with. Management is very understanding and approachable.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Work varies, based on the current tasks to do in 2 week sprints. The balance is great though, there's never so much work that I've felt pressured to the point of stress-explosion, but if there is a lull in what to do, it's acceptable to self-learn and study up to be better at what you can do later. Work is shared across the entire team and there's a lot of knowledge sharing, so anyone can jump on any task at any time required to help even it out.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As much responsibility as everyone else in the team. I never felt like I was being held back from doing things because I wasn't seen as responsible or trusted enough. Anything I was unsure about or not experienced enough in I would be taught about, or pointed in the right direction to learn. I've both received praise for doing good, and it's been pointed out where I can do better if I mess up, just the same as anyone else in the team. Each member is responsible for the whole project, intern or senior, and supports each other to get things done.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Massively! I've learned so much so far, not just in my field but from simple stuff like how to use tools and communicate to employees from other departments, how to persuade and impress. Lots of soft skills along with the technical. There are so many training opportunities available that it'd be foolish to miss out. The training is concise and to the point, and I've always come away with some new skill or technique to use. I feel pretty confident about my final year, after learning the technical stuff, and happy that I'll be graduating with this experience under my belt.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Super happy. Think of the song "Everything is awesome" from the Lego movie. Everyone works hard and loves what they do. If you get someone talking about what they work on, you can almost see the passion for it coming out of them. Even when things look a little bit grim, morale is kept high and everyone works together to come out on top. Plus with the benefits, everyone just loves working here!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There's a bit at the start of the Internship where it's settling in time, meeting people and everyone figures out what's the best thing to do to get the intern set up, but once you're dropped into a team, you're a part of that team, and so get the same organization as everyone else. Management are very good at keeping their teams in check, while also providing anything they need. While in my team I've never really felt like something was spiraling out of control, or like I was lost in a crowd.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot. Everyone has time. If you want to learn something, ask around and someone will probably be willing to give you a hand or teach you something, even if it's just 10 minute coffee breaks every few days/weeks. There are ample training sessions that you can both sign up for yourself, and some you're automatically signed up for. Management has no issue with you taking the time to attend their training sessions to better yourself, and any down time in the work flow is filled with self-training. Both from a company level (organized training session) and a personal level (individual mentors, team peers, talking to experienced employees), there's a lot of time that the company puts into helping you be the best that you can be while here.

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Travel loan

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I don't believe there is an official graduate scheme with the company right now, and there's no confirmed offer of returning while still on the internship like some other companies, the people team have expressed that they will be in touch throughout my final year and pushing for me to apply for a permanent role after graduating. Which I'm likely to do.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All of the interns from all of the areas know all of the other interns. Whether it's just meeting up for a coffee or lunch, or going out for an evening, you'll get to know your peers. The same applies to the team and general "Hey I saw you one time in that one meeting, let's get coffee" people. Everyone is really friendly, and there are enough coffee shops, restaurants, bars and a park to go and hang out at lunch and after work with. Or just hang out during the monthly Friday beers! On top of this, I've made a lot of friends while here to go and hang out with over the weekend.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's London, so the cost of housing will blow your mind if you've lived in a small town or regular city for most of your life. But, all considered, it's not that bad. I've always had spare money to go out and do whatever I wanted, and London is so huge that there's ALWAYS something to do and see.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Great! It's London! Take your pick of where you want to go!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Whether it's just generally doing whatever you want in London, or a few colleagues getting together to play some football, doing some volunteering teaching young adults in the area or the company itself organizing movie nights and charity runs, there's a lot of get into if you're willing.
