    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Work placement was a great opportunity to get better insight into how manufacturing business work. I had many chances to be involved in various challenging projects that let me gain different skills. Every day was different so it was impossible to loose interest in my job.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • No one was treating me like just a placement student and my work was always appreciated by others. My skills and knowledge were extremely valuable. People were asking for my advice and help and I was happy to contribute as much as I could.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very approchable and I was supported when I needed help or guidance even though I felt that leadership could have shared more of their knowledge with me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were busier than other. Normal working hours were 08:30 - 16:30 and I needed to stay longer very rarely.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was involved in many projects that were very important for business. I created some new models that were used to make important business decisions. Also, the analysis I conducted was the basis of all decisions made in our business area.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My work placement helped me decide on what career path is suitable for me. The skills I developed will be very useful in some of my university projects. They will also be a great contribution to requirements for future job positions.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very relaxing. Everyone was very approchable and friendly.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There was no clear structure of the placement itself. Almost no formal training was provided as well. But I received formal feedback twice which was very useful.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • No technical training was provided. It was hard to get some softwares that would have let me improve some processes and develop my skills.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • This is a big company that has great opportunities to start your career and then progress futher. However, majority operations are in North America, so it is very difficult to contrinute to corporate side of business.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were a lot of placement students on the same site. There were plenty of social events for us.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Rent was reasonable and the area was relatively cheap.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not very good. There were a few clubs but they were not the nicest.

  • There was a department organising various volunteering activities outside of work.
