About You
I really enjoyed the insight. It was very informative with a large number of presentations and opportunities to talk to members of the firm, so we were able to learn lots about the firm in a variety of ways.
We were treated in a very welcoming way. At no point did we feel that we were causing an inconvenience or that we were wasting time by asking questions. Particularly during the trainee shadowing I felt that members of the firm were willing to give us a lot of time and were happy to explain things, which made me feel welcomed and that they appreciated that our experience at the firm was important.
We received a lot of guidance and support, because the activities mainly involved presentations or exercises where members of the firm were always on hand to help.
I think the skills that we learnt will be extremely useful when it comes to filling out applications, both for law firm vacation schemes and training contracts, and for other types of job or internship because they emphasised certain general skills that could be applicable in a wide range of areas. The skills which we developed would not necessarily assist me in my degree studies because the work undertaken at the firm is so different to my academic work. However I do not think that the purpose of the insight was to assist us in our degree studies.
The Company
Very well structured - there was a good number of activities and presentations and a nice variety of both.
Very friendly and welcoming. Everyone was helpful and keen to answer questions. Given the nature of the industry I slightly expected that we might be in the way but no one made us feel like that at all. Also really fun - I enjoyed spending time with all the other students on the scheme.
There was not a lot of personal training and development but the group exercises and presentations allowed us to develop a number of skills.
The insight provided a great understanding of what it would be like to have a full time role with the company because it provided the opportunity to meet and discuss life at the firm with people working at all different levels and in a range of practice areas.
The insight helped me understand the firm culture well, and particularly what differentiated the firm from other firms with similar structures
The content of the insight was extremely valuable. It allowed for a great insight into the firm and life there, as well as explaining the work clearly, so I feel much more informed to make a decision as to where I would most like to work
Everything Else
travel costs up to a certain limit were reimbursed and for those who couldn't travel in both days accommodation was provided overnight
Yes there were presentations with Q&As, two networking events and a trainee shadowing opportunity.
Very relaxed and informal enough to prevent feeling awkward at all! There were also enough members of the firm to ensure that everyone could ask questions and meet enough people.
Yes both the partner presentation and the networking events highlighted the range of activities available outside of work. There seems to be a lot of opportunity to take part in external activities.
Yes definitely - even if they are unsure about a career in this area the insight into the firm available would really help someone to make up their mind either way.
