    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the spring insight scheme very much. There was a great balance between classroom knowledge and work. We attended a few presentations and group exercise sessions, and completed about a day of work-shadowing. I absolutely love how the graduate recruitment team paired us with our first and second preference practice areas for the work-shadowing and networking lunch sessions.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt quite valued. My trainee supervisor made sure I had tasks to complete during the work-shadowing session so that I could get the most out of the scheme, and he asked his colleagues to give me work as well. I also finished a variety of tasks, from arranging bundles to completing research.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Since my trainee supervisor was very friendly and approachable, I could ask him questions by popping into his office or sending him an email whenever I encountered problems. I also sat with a partner during the work-shadowing session, so I could ask general questions about the firm or the industry.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Since the scheme offered presentations and work-shadowing opportunities, I gained a deeper insight into commercial law. As I was placed in a department, I also built my understanding of that specific practice area. Through the work-shadowing session, I learnt to be detail-oriented and responsible.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Great. We were given a timetable weeks before the insight scheme, so I knew the structure of the scheme quite early on. I like that there is a great balance between presentations and work-shadowing, which I mentioned above. The scheme is well organised and structured.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Very friendly. All the partners, associates and trainees I met are approachable and friendly without being intimidating or aggressive. The same goes for the participants. No one was overly competitive. The farewell event at Bounce was amazing.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Greatly. Since they paired us with a trainee and allowed us to sit with a partner or an associate, and they also set up an email account for us, we were really able to complete real work that is usually done by trainees. The presentations and group exercise sessions also helped us to build our skills.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The scheme is quite short as it only lasts for two days. Nevertheless, I could see the types of work that the firm focus on, as well as the culture. Maybe if the scheme was longer, I would have been able to gain a deeper understanding of what full time roles are like.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Greatly. I could see how friendly the people are, as all the lawyers are really down-to-earth and approachable. The firm also focuses on work-life balance from what I have heard from the lawyers. These qualities are very appealing to me.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Quite valuable. I think it helped to affirm my career aspiration of being a solicitor in a city firm. It also reminded me to choose a firm that matches my own personality and characteristics. Besides, I could understand more about the practice areas that I am interested in.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • £100 for two days.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We could network with the trainee solicitors during the work-shadowing session and the farewell event. There weren't many opportunities to network with associates or partners unless you sat with them.

    3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • I like the farewell event very much. It would have been even better if we had more chances to network with associates or partners. But then the scheme is quite short so it is understandable.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I know that they offer gym subsidy. Besides that, I did not find out much about it.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely. Absolutely great balance between classroom knowledge and work-shadowing sessions as I have mentioned. There was no pressure to be overly competitive or aggressive to impress the lawyers and graduate recruitment team.
