The Role
On the whole, my work placement was an overwhelmingly positive experience. The addition of practical work experience on my CV (in an International environment, no less) is something that every prospective employer I have encountered since has been impressed by.
The members of my firm were always very friendly and welcoming. In terms of my overall importance to the running of the organisation, I wasn't always convinced that I was an integral member of the team.
I was certainly given guidance by some members of the firm...but not always the ones I necessarily wanted/needed it from! The senior lawyers were often very busy/caught up in their work and often it was the administrative members of the firm who would find tasks for me to carry out.
My workload varied quite wildly - there were periods that were quite busy, interspersed with some incredibly slow days.
In truth, not very much at all.
In terms of my actual work skills, I would have to say that my skills developed minimally during my placement. In terms of life experience and ability to command better roles on my return, Mountbatten was a massive game changer.
The Company
Generally quite jovial and welcoming. As with any office, there are different characters whose moods varies day to day. This office was no different.
No complaints in this regards.
Minimally.

Not particularly - though having said that, the intern before me stayed on for a further two years. I think this illustrates how the same placement can be very different for different people.
The Culture
I got on very well with my fellow intern from the placement. On the scheme in general, the social scene was fantastic. There were roughly 120 interns of a similar age living together in NYC for a year! I still have many, many friends who am I now closer to than people I known twice as long!
NYC is an expensive city. However, I am a Londoner, so there was a particularly drastic difference. I would recommend, however, that anyone going on this scheme save up extra money to live off, as the stipend only goes so far.
Again, there are very few places in the world that can compare to the NYC nightlife...Not just nightlife, but there are just so many different things to do every day...and there is something for everybody!
Yes, absolutely. There were numerous dinner events organised by the Institute that we were able to apply to get involved with.
