The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. I was given plenty of responsibility and opportunities to prove myself. I have improved my confidence, and feel much more knowledgable about retail.
I was given a lot of time by both colleagues in my own team, as well as anyone else I was put into contact with. I had one-to-one meetings with different members of my team and other departments in my first week to learn more about their roles. I was always included as part of the team.
My line manager was very supportive, and was very good at introducing me to lots of different people within the company. I had weekly one-to-one meetings with my line manager to discuss the project I was working on. However, I was also given a good amount of independence in order to prove myself. I was not given any menial or repetitive jobs to do.
The intiial weeks I largely attended meetings, and helped members of my team with their work where possible in order to learn more about the role. This included visitis to port, service providers etc. Once I was given my own project, I was very busy and could use my own initiative more to forward this.
I was given a lot of responsibility, including attending a Senior managament meeting to present on the project I was working on, and presenting to several level 4 managers. I could fully appreciate the impact the work I was doing would have to Tesco.
I mainly feel this internship has improved my confidence. I have also been given lots of opportunities to present and been given feedback on this. Further I have also learnt IT and excel skills.
The Company
Tesco was suprisingly less corporate than I expected. In order to really succeed in the company you must 'take people with you', there is a strong emphasis on how you work and your values as well as meeting targets and KPIs.
Very well ogansied. We were given opportunities to move around different departartments in a customer stream and technical week. And there were central days for all the interns.
Lots - we were treated as the future leaders of Tesco.

Very good. There is an opportunity to get directly on the grad scheme in the last week of your placement. You have an interview and presentation, as well as recieving feedback from your line manager to determine whether you are suitable, and what you have learnt on your internship.
The Culture
We were actively encouraged to network and socialise with other interns as well as grads. There were centrally organised events such as sports days and grad balls. However we also organised our own nights out and lunches.
Cheshunt was quite cheap to live in, however we went out in London which is obviously very expensive for students
Cheshunt is quite dead, however it is only 20 minutes away from Liverpool street on a train, which made it very easy to go out in London.
Only opportunities that we organised ourselves, other than that I did not get to attend any team days, supplier visits etc.
