    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the responsibilities and opportunities Intel gave me during my 13 month placement. Intel employed approximately 50 other interns the year I was recruited, which was a big bonus.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team events each quarter that are funded by Intel, helped me build relationships with other colleagues. Every quarter had treasure hunts and local community events

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly 1:1s with my manager to raise any issues or problems. Also had team meetings weekly to go through work stages. Also were assigned a 'buddy' to go to regarding anything.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had things to do at the start of my placement since everything was new to me & obviously it took me that little bit longer than everyone else to complete my tasks. Three months into the placement I was able to speed up & had some spare time on my hands. So I made my manager aware of this & he was able to work with my team coach to get me more tasks so that I was able to get the most out of my time here

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given extra of responsibilities once I had proved I could do my core role well and manage my time effectively.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Presentation and preparation/analysis of data skills in particular will help in the future. I have presented in front of top managers at the UK site.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly environment, after a couple of months I knew lots of people who would say hello to me in the corridor or canteen at lunch. It was a very busy also which gave me a true insight into the world of work and how to deal with work pressure

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It is a well established work placement and has been running for years. The handover period from the previous intern to me was very well organised and I didnt feel as intimidated as I thought I would taking on work responsibilities.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had a great deal of training when I first started, some was applical to Intel Corporation and some was more general like coping with confrontation in the work place, presentation skills, time management

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Intel also has a graduate scheme to work towards, this provides motivation to impress your manager/team so that perhaps you could be given the opportunity to come back once you have finished your degree

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The rent and cost of living was fine. Swindon itself doesnt have a great social scene but because the students socialise in a big group we organised lots of trips to nearby cities.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Swindon is a cheap town to live in compared to most and also because it isn't a city and doesn’t have a university here. Rent was very reasonable and food prices average. Socialising is also reasonable, much like the uni lifestyle.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • A lot of the people that went out seemed to be underage. The 'older' part of town is more sophisticated but was too expensive.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were so many raffles and charity work that was on offer and reduced price tickets for events e.g. go karting, trips to london, thorpe park. Intel do a lot to involve everyone and celebrate as many occasions as possible.

    4/5
