  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Herbert Smith Freehills, finding all of the Graduate Recruitment Team to be very friendly and making the workshop very pleasurable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt that the firm had put a lot of time and resources into the planning and running of the workshop, making it feel like I was highly valued, which I appreciated. I was especially impressed with all of the extra activities that the firm had organised, such as the trip on the London Eye, and the evening drinks with individuals from the firm. By going this extra mile, it made the firm stand out.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • In having the opportunity to talk to trainees, associates, partners as well as the Graduate Recruitment Team over the two days, I felt that I gained a much better insight into the work of the firm, being given a lot of useful advice such as how to approach the applications process and interviews. This made me feel a lot more confident and at ease, with everyone being extremely friendly.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The information I received over the two days will be vastly beneficial when it comes to applying for further positions at the firm, as I now feel much more confident about both what the firm is looking for, and also feel that I have a better knowledge of the firm to aid me when deciding what I would like to do in the future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I thought that the insight was well planned, with there always being something to do, which meant that we were able to cover a lot over the two days. However, there was not too much that it became tiring or boring- my interest was attained throughout.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere of the firm was incredibly friendly, with all involved being welcoming and immediately putting me at ease, which I appreciated.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I found the shadowing of the trainee gave me a valuable insight into the skills required to work for the firm. I now know the duties that may be performed on a day to day basis, which has been beneficial to me.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • In shadowing a trainee as well as talking to individuals from different departments, I found that I learnt a lot about what working for the firm may be like, furthering my understanding.

  • In being able to spend time in the offices, I enjoyed being able to experience the culture first-hand and found this very helpful.

  • I found that I learnt a lot about the company, giving me a much better idea of what working in a commercial law firm would involve, and thus being very beneficial in helping me to decide on my future career path.

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I am to be reimbursed for travel expenses and the firm paid for a hotel for the night.


  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were plenty of opportunities to talk to different members of the firm, having the chance to have all of my questions answered.

  • The events were excellent- very enjoyable with members of the firm being friendly and approachable.

  • Yes, in speaking to the trainees they told me about the different activities that individuals at the firm can become involved in.

  • I would definitely recommend the insight, with it being extremely enjoyable and an invaluable opportunity to find out about the firm first-hand.
