The Role
I am glad i chose to do the placement program but there are parts which let the experience down such as been left out of vital business trips to go meet clients. Also i didn't feel the support at some stages of the internship and didn't feel that others would help share the workload even though i helped others with their work. I did find the experience depressing and too stressful at some points.
Did not feel totally valued due to manager not taking full interest into my work. Also i was required to complete a portfolio for University to pass my placement which required monthly meetings with my manager, these meetings did not happen every month and were often pushed back which did not help with the development of myself. Also as i previously mentioned missed out on vital business trips due to the company not willing to spend money on my travel even though the company paid for everyone else on the team to travel.
A good 2 week introduction program offered support, little support from manager. My fellow colleague who operated on the same role as me offered support at the start to help myself learn but later on it was more i was supporting them by doing their work for them. I think the wider team others around me were the biggest help by kindly helping with the workload and offering me advice.
Too busy at some times, the team i was involved in a year before i started had 4 people in it this was reduced to just 2 people including myself this heavily affected my individual workload and often led to stressful situations and having to take work home which i did not appreciate. I am quite glad i was busy some days to learn but most of the time the workload was ridiculous.
This is where the placement was great i was given loads of responsibility been able to make short term and long term decisions which have an effect on the company. Some of the decisions i did have to get approval from manager's but still i was responsible for a lot of major decisions made at Procter and Gamble.
The skills i have learnt and training i received will help me throughout my life which is good. The company did provide a lot of helpful training. I would say the life experiences from the placement will help me more than the training.
The Company
General atmosphere was good really friendly people where you are close to high up managers. The majority of people got on well and shared small talk. I did feel at some points though that due to myself always been busy that some people who were doing nothing could have offered to help myself out with the work but instead took a longer lunch break or were online shopping, but that is only a small group of individuals and there was quite few people who always did help out most of them which were temps with the full time staff not helping too much.
Good standard, well organised.
They had their own training schemes which i could join, some good training schemes and some pointless. They didn't really invest me as it was all free.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare from home
For myself not really, i don't want to go back. It is a great company which i have respect for but the roles do not interest me as the roles are all strict follow the standards and no freedom to express yourself. But there are some good opportunities in the company but promotion seems hard to get and timely.
The Culture
The social scene was often at company parties which were too over the top and too corporate for my liking.
Lived in Newcastle upon tyne which is very cheap to live and shop.
Nightlife in Newcastle was great, but i didn't go on night out's as i didn't want to turn up to work feeling ill.
Yes could play sports.
