    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I very much enjoyed my time in Tesco. Working in I.T. infrastructure. I had the opportunity to work on exciting large scale projects that had a meaningful impact on the company as a whole.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team was always very nice, given relevant work with increased responsibility as the intern progressed.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My management and supervisors where fantastic, always available if I needed any support but also respected my abilities and left me to get on with work, rather than checking up on me constantly.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Nearly every day I had plenty of work to do, some days I was even snowed under with the work load. However a couple of days when things where pending I had little to do. People would always give me more interesting work if asked though.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At first I was given smaller tasks in large projects, towards the end I spent a few weeks managing a large scale project with some pretty interesting things involved. I was very impressed and thankful with the amount of responsibly I was given.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In regards to my degree, not so much. In my future career, a massive amount. The skills I've learnt during my internship with unquestionably help me develop my care

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was very approachable and would give you time. Good banter as well but everyone also had a great work ethic.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I don't think that the actual structure of the intern was set up well. However the things I learnt and the roles I was given where much better than a structured "you will do this, at this time" style of intern.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had many training days, meetings with the CIO, directors and exposure to senior people often. I felt valued and this was shown in events and meetings I attended.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If and hopefully I get offered a place on the Graduate scheme, I would absolutely love to accept it.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I got to know the people around me and made some good friends. However the location of the intent meant that if you did not drive, you could not really socialise often outside of work which was a shame.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being close enough to London for a commute, the cost of living was high. Travel was into the extreme and this meant that you could not go days out without spending a small fortune.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in Stevenage and surrounding areas was awful.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities such as the I.T. sports day, sports events, hosted dinners etc. Tesco provides well for its emplyees in this regard.

    4/5
