    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The office environment was always lively; with collaborative play lists spotify play list, birthday darts, birthday celebrations the office was always an exciting place to me. My work was often challenging and I always had the opportunity to prove myself and take on greater responsibility.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were often interested in my opinion and the company even allowed me to pursue research in to the benefits of cloud technology (a topic of which I am particularly interested in).

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was typically on projects as a sole developer. I did, however, have the opportunity to book time with the senior developers. The Managing Directors often shared experiences and didn't hesitate sharing constructive criticism.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was always busy. When my main development project was at a slow pace i was able to propose and take on research and development projects or my own. This allowed me to improve my understanding of the technologies we used (and I have used since, at university and in my new job).

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As the sole developer on my main project I held all the responsibility for the project. Initially, it was daunting, however, I embarrassed the challenge and overall feel the responsibility forced me to grow quicker.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My placement taught me that "60-70%" wasn't good enough. At work I had to consistantly get 100%. This attitude persisted as I attended my final year where I aimed only for the best I could achieve. In my current role I still demonstrate the same enthusiasm and expect the same from my colleagues. I feel this helps myself to improve and my team.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As previously mentioned, there were plenty of activities in the office to keep everyone very sociable and sharing ideas. It was never discouraged to take some time away from work to discuss a song that was playing, a spots game or to practice for the "MMT table football championship".

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • When I interviewed I knew exactly what project I would be working on and what was expected of me. I knew what to expect of my employer.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I did not receive any formal training, however, there was a team of experienced developers that were always happy to take the time to review my code and share ideas. The training I did receive was very specific to MMT Digital. That's not to say there weren't any "transferable" skills that I am extremely grateful for (communication with much more senior colleagues, for example)

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I continued to work with MMT Digital on a private contract for 6 additional months and attended the office to train new recruits some time later.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I became best friends with my two fellow placeees

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I continued to live in Leicester. When council tax isn't a factor (which it isn't as a placement student) its very reasonable!

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Leicester has an exciting nightlife for students - very accommodating.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was 5(ish) a side football once a week, pub twice a month, larger nights out every couple of month.

    5/5
