    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement here. I was given plenty of responsibility and I was presented with a lot of opportunities throughout, such as travelling abroad and visiting customers.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I did feel valued by my colleagues as they always trusted me with the responsibilities given to me and provided positive feedback whenever possible.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whenever I required support from my manager he was always available to me. If I had any issues or queries, he was always happy to help, which allowed to me to progress with the task at hand. I was also given a clear outline of what I should expect to learn throughout my placement from day one.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My workload varied on a daily basis, there was always something to do if using your own initiative, however some days can be quiet, for example, if the team are travelling or off site.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility throughout my placement, by undertaking projects and carrying out tasks that may have been above me, however it was good to know that my colleagues thought they could rely on me. I was even trusted to attend customer meetings without assistance.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My confidence skills improved massively during my placement with Faurecia which will always be of great assistance. However, my excel skills were also developed which come in use everyday at university.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was great, the team all got along well and always helped each other out, so it was always positive in there.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My placement was one of the first offered by Faurecia, therefore it was still being adapted and changed to become as effective as possible. Throughout my placement the structure got better and better and is now fully set out for future students.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given training wherever possible to enable me to use applications such as Oracle iProc, X4 and SAP, alongside the use of customer portals. I was also given the opportunity to complete a driving course which allowed me to be insured on company vehicles.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, the international aspect of the scheme offered to post-graduates is very exciting.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I worked with only one other placement student at my location, however our relationship was very good. The office got together for events such as christmas meals and leaving parties which was good.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I got to live at home throughout my placement as it was very local. However the cost of living and socialising can vary massively depending upon choice and preference.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There aren't many clubs around, however there are several nice bars, and Birmingham nightlife is not far away with good train connections.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a football match set up every week, and there was often times where members of the office would go out for a drink or for food after work.
