    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Absolutely loved (nearly) every second! Some times it was stressful, but the majority of the time it was good fun, got a chance to interact with guests at every given moment and learned so much from my peers.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like part of the family from day one. I was praised often and told by other members of staff that they were lucky to have me there.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I only had to ask if I was finding anything a challenge or a problem and I would get the support I needed. I was able to gain great friendships with my supervisors and manager.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Working in the hostess role, it largely depended on occupancy levels as to how busy I was, however, I always felt like I was kept busy and there was always something I could be doing during my working hours.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for being the hostess in the restaurant, and I think I could have asked for more responsibility if I really wanted but at times I often found it challenging enough having to remember each guest's name and what they looked like - especially when we had high occupancy in the hotel.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that the inter-personal skills and confidence in dealing with guests and colleagues from across the globe is invaluable with regards to my future in hospitality!

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was up for a laugh and always happy to make the work environment enjoyable. There was certainly never a dull moment.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • After a few issues with visa requirements (not at the fault of the company) my internship ran extremely smoothly! I was even offered the chance to cross train, however, my 3-month internship flew by and did not get round to this.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had an orientation day, and my training was basic but given to me by the former hostess (also an intern). I feel that maybe this is something the company could improve on.

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I already cannot wait to go back there!!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Living on a resort means its difficult with regards to the variety of activities available, however, there was always something happening - football tournaments, sports activities, swimming competitions, department BBQ's, trips to other islands.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • My accomodation was free. Cost of socialising is not applicable.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not applicable unfortunately. One, you are living on a resort and two, you are working in an Islamic country where locals (who make up the majority of the workforce) are not allowed to consume alcohol. Therefore, unless there are BBQ's or other evening events taking place, you are restricted to the number of activities you can do in the evenings.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were always activities to be joining in with - it is up to you to join in or not.
