The Role
ASOS was a great place to complete my placement year, although stressful at times, it was thoroughly enjoyable!
I felt highly valued by my colleagues - I was nominated for additional responsibilities which extended beyond the standard role within my team, this also included training new starters. I was often assumed to be a full time member of the team instead of an Intern.
The support system at ASOS is well thought through - you have a buddy and a mentor as well as the previous Intern to train you when you start. You have regular meetings with your line manager and the People Team (HR) are also on hand for anything else you might need, Overall the general atmosphere at ASOS is incredibly supportive.
ASOS is an incredibly fast-paced company - although some periods are more hectic than others, everyone is very busy most of the time. As an Intern you are no exception to this - although you are not expected to stay beyond your paid hours, but having a strong work ethic is important at this company.
At ASOS you are definitely not treated 'like an Intern' - you are given a job role equal to full-time employees, this is a good thing as it gives you a realistic experience of working within the industry. There is always the opportunity to gain more responsibility, either by volunteering yourself or by being nominated - this is a great way to show your development through the year.
I learnt a lot throughout my year at ASOS, as my first role in the industry the experience will be invaluable when i finish university and enter my first graduate job. There were a number of training and development sessions throughout the year - both Intern only and for all employees at my level - the skills learnt at these will help both at university and afterwards.
The Company
The atmosphere inside the ASOS office is amazing, especially within the menswear floor where i worked, Everyone is incredibly friendly, welcoming and you can't not have a good time during your work day - even when you're really busy! The emphasis on socializing outside of work hours is ingrained with ASOS, and a great way to build team rapport.
The placement scheme is very well organised at ASOS, the 'tried and tested' structure of the year gets the best out of the student and the company. It would have been beneficial to have more organised one-to-one catch ups with the people team, prehaps quarterly, but you do meet at the end of the year to reflect and talk everything through which is nice.
ASOS invest highy in all their employees - training sessions, development days and forums with other employees are useful and productive. The rule that ' you will get as much out of it as you put in' is certainly true here,

Future employmnt prospects within the organisation are very appealing - starting with the possibility to extend your contract with them after your 12 month placement is finished, which i did - giving me the opportunity to see new roles within the business. ASOS continue to stay in contact with you after you leave, looking towards emplyment after your graduation and beyond.
The Culture
As a group of interns we made the effort to eat lunch together when we could, and go out for drinks throughout the year. It's great to know that there are so many of you around the office, and i made some great friends in the process. In general, ASOS is a very sociable company, at team/department level and also on a larger scale at Menswear, or company-wide parties/social events.
The office is at the bottom of Camden High St (Mornington Cresent tube station) - an easy commute from most areas in and around London. I lived in Golders Green for the majority of the year before moving to Clapham Junction - both were reasonable for cost of living and Clapham has a good social scene. Camden is well known as a socialising spot and made post-work activities/places to go for team lunches easy and varied.
There is a number of pubs and bars near the office, as well as it not being too far from central London for company parties and bigger nights out.
Yes, there was the opportunities to get involved with the ASOS Foundation, as well as sports clubs and classes and lots of social events - these were company, team or externally organised.
