    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I can honestly say taking a year's placement with L'Oreal working within The Body Shop is one of the best decisions I've ever made. I gained an invaluable amount of skill and experience as well as several life long friends.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From day one I wasn't an intern but a key member of the team. My opinion was valued and my work was respected - I couldn't of asked for a better team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Incredibly supportive and always there to listen if I needed them. I was very lucky to have both a wonderful manager and a very talented team of copywriters and designers to learn from during my time at The Body Shop.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The work I was given was engaging, challenging and I very rarely had down time. At the same time I never felt overwhelmed as I knew my colleagues would support me if I needed assistance. I would say with this placement prepare for a few late nights but they are most definitely worth it!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A great deal. From the beginning I attended legal meetings, was briefed by other departments and signed off copy for international markets. Completely trusted, from day one the level of work in this position was that of a junior rather than an intern.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt so many invaluable things during my year at The Body Shop. The position allowed me to develop my skills beyond being a copywriter to being a creative. From art direction to concepts, from the legalities of writing for the beauty industry down to the science of NPD. I now have a very unique set of skills that sets me apart from many copywriters.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The creative studio at The Body Shop is a friendly, buzzing and exciting place to be - all down to the wonderful people who work there.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As I was the first year long copy placement the processes were being fine-tuned so they weren't quite perfect but overall it worked well and if there was ever an issue my manager was always on hand.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think the key to this internship is taking initiative. The more you're proactive about the skills you want to learn, the more the company will support you in achieving your goals.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • As copy is such a specialized area, unfortunately at the time I was there a junior position was unavailable for me to be promoted into after I finished my year. But either way I would say that the experience the year provides you with is an excellent stepping stone in your career.

  • Everyone at the company is friendly, approachable and social. I enjoyed many great times with my colleagues.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London Bridge is an expensive place to work when you're an intern but also one full of great places to explore and one that's very convenient to get to.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There's lots of good places to go after work. The team often go for drinks after work which is a great place to get to know people from different departments.
