The Role
My year at ASOS was fantastic and i'd love to return after graduating. I have returned to university with a wealth of knowledge and a thorough understanding of how a buying office works.
At ASOS you always feel welcome and part of a team, right from day 1. Although you're an intern, you are valued just as much as every other member of the team and given the same tasks as a fulltime BA which is really encouraging
There is a mentor team set up within the business to support the interns if you have any issues within the department. Frequent development meetings were also held with my manager to discuss progress and any queries
ASOS is extremely fast paced exciting environment and there was never nothing to do. With so many things to be getting on with, prioritizing was essential and a skill i developed further during my placement year. Having such a busy job role also gave me the opportunity to build upon my time management and team working skills. Every day brings a new challenge and a new job to be getting on with which was very motivating
I was giving as much responsibility as I could be at the level I was at which was really rewarding across the year. I was always pushed to do new challenges and things that may be out my comfort zone which was a great opportunity in terms of personal development and confidence.
The experience i've gained from ASOS has been incredible and i feel very prepared to tackle my final year at university. Aside from buying office knowledge, the placement year has got me in the mindset of a 9-5 job and i hope to continue with this work ethic whilst writing my dissertation. In addition, my internship has helped me develop the self confidence to push myself further in the working environment
The Company
The atmosphere of the office was always fast paced, hardworking, yet still fun! Every day i enjoyed going into work to face new exciting challenges and new samples to look at on my desk!
The internship is very well organised and regular meetings and development sessions are held for all interns to come together. Breakfast mornings were a great opportunity to learn about other sides of the business
BA Forums were held every month for all Buyers Assistants across the womenswear floor. This was a good opportunity to voice opinions and ideas for the business. In addition, developement sessions such as negotiation skills, presentation skills and excel training sessions were also frequently held and available for employees to sign up to
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Travel loan
Very appealing. A reward/promotion was given at the end of my placement year for my hard work meaning i can return when a position becomes available
The Culture
ASOS as a company are very social which creates a great work/play ethic throughout the business. We'd have team lunches, arrange drinks after work, womenswear socials where the whole floor would get together and also the Christmas/summer parties which were amazing!
Compared to student living and the cheaper lifestyle, London is very expensive. However ASOS is a paid placement and interns are still entitled to some student finance which makes the year financially manageable.
Camden is a fun place for night life and not one of the more expensive areas of London
There were classes such as yoga, personal training, pilates etc you could sign up to and take part in during lunchtime/after work. Also a beautician who you could book a slot in with throughout the day
