    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Absolutely loved it! Despite being a student, the amount of trust and level of responsibility placed in me was fantastic.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Right from the outset it was clear to me there was an exceptionally strong network across the whole company. This cohesion along with the levels of encouragement to maximise and fulfil potential made it a fantastic place to be, and from my first day I really did feel a part of 'Team Lidl'.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Although the amount of work and responsibility was sometimes tough, the level of training and support I received was excellent. At no point did I ever feel unable to ask for help, and whenever needed someone was always there to offer me advice. It was clear to me that being a part of Team Lidl meant more than just pursuing individual goals. All employees recognise that contributing to the collective success of the organisation is just as important as excelling individually, so working together and forging strong relationships is something that is valued highly.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • One thing I found out on my placement was that there certainly isn't a typical day at Lidl. Every day brought new challenges which for me was great because it made each day very exciting.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From running shifts in Store and in the Warehouse, to managing projects at Head Office the amount of responsibility I had was tremendous. I read reviews from previous placement students that the level of responsibility they had was great, but if I am being honest I didn't expect to be given so much. It was amazing! Lidl certainly kept me on my toes during my 48-weeks but I wouldn't change it for the world.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • They will be invaluable. Not only do I now have REAL work experience, I have project management experience as well as people management and team leadership experience. On top of that, my communication skills and confidence have significantly improved. The placement has allowed me to 'plant a seed', and I believe I gave a firm account of myself and what I could bring to company after completing my studies. I will DEFINITELY be applying for one of the Lidl Graduate Programmes.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Competitive, and this made it a very fun place to be. As an employee, this better never stops attitude creates a fantastic working environment which I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Excellent. During each module I knew exactly what was expected of me, what my goals were and most importantly, how to achieve them. One of the best parts of the placement was being allowed to decide which areas of the business I worked in. For me this was very unheard of and it just reemphasises the trust and responsibility placed in placement students at Lidl.
