    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a great year which pushed me professionally, surrounded by a brilliant team of people that really made a difference alongside the fact there was a great network of industrial placement students to go through the experience with.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team were incredibly supportive and positive. They always included me and made sure I had a good balance of work and my capabilities were stretched without being overloaded. I feel like I have mentors and friends for life from my year out.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor was incredibly supportive always conducting one on one meetings weekly, making it an absolute priority even if there were other important things to attend too. He always asked me to be honest during our one-on-ones and made sure we worked through any issues or problems together.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied usually being more busy than not, for example I never had a day that I didn't have something to do and never had to ask for work which I think is a massive positive. Sometimes the work load did feel overwhelming but this was my choice to take on those responsibilities and it never felt pressured.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a healthy level of responsibility for my position, always feeling like a valued member of the team that could pitch in to wider discussions alongside having my own weekly responsibilities.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • the list of skills ive developed are endless - being within a larger organisation allows you to confidently develop your skills within a comfortable environment meaning you can learn to build relationships/network with other business units without the worry of 'messing up' with clients etc.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • with such a large organisation meant that different areas of the head quarters had different vibes but I felt my office was quite quiet but my team and others on the floor were very friendly and supportive.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • my position/job role was really well structured and I had a brilliant handover but the communications department itself could have structured more workshops/inductions for the Industrial placement students to set up a more structured system for having them as part of the unit.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think this is something the company could look into further but it was somethnig i pushed hard with my manager/team but felt the comms department as a whole could have put more time into developing - understanding personality, learning comms skills etc.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Subsidised Canteen

    Financial Bonus

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • they are a brilliant company and have seen their grad scheme first hand I know it is brilliant but I want to persue a career in other areas so would definately consider GSK if there was a job opportunity in an area of my interest or when i was older and established my career.

    3/5
