The Role
placement has been really important for me and although i had to learn on the go, for me this was probably the best way to learn. ASOS is such a fast paced company that you don't have time to stop and think. it was definitely challenging but so valuable
it was hard to feel valued at the start as there were a huge amount of team changes but as the team settled it felt much more secure and that we really were working together as a team to achieve the desired outcome.
i was really impressed with how well i was given reviews over the year and objectives to achieve. it was good to have this as something to work towards and also to have a check myself so that i know if i were to return what i might need to achieve to work up within the levels of a BA
ASOS is such a fast paced company that i often was overwhelmed and had to stay longer hours to ensure that the work was done. this was sometimes very stressful with the pressures of the team and the company. it was good to be busy and towards the end i was much more confident at managing my own time and ensuring that i felt less stressed in order to achieve the right tasks.
over the year more responsibility was given to me. however, being the only BA on the team there were a large number of tasks given to me that were my responsibility, being the BA means that you have to do the tasks that keep the processes running smoothly. i was even asked to train up 2 members of staff to ensure that they knew the BA role. this was a great responsibility and also a great achievement for me.
although the skills i learnt may not reflect totally onto my final year of study. the knowledge that i have gained of the industry will be vital to my future and also to my understanding of buying as a role.
The Company
ASOS office is a very very busy place and the atmosphere is very well reflected on the teams. working with brands it was nice to be able to be a part of supplier meetings and also parties/launch events which created a break from the daily tasks. the office was always busy and full of buzz which was a good energy to motivate you to work and ensure your tasks are being completed. there are really good updates to the whole company from higher up that make you really feel invested in as a member of the company.
there was a lot of training involved at the start of the year which was really good to maintain the whole group of interns however i do feel like this could have been continued throughout the year. perhaps more socials too would help the interns to feel more connected. it was generally really good however and there was a clear programme for interns and support if needed. the mentor scheme is a really good idea.
there was a good amount of training available to interns and most of this was run specifically for interns. it would have been good to integrate this into other BAs so that you didn't feel like you were a separate part of the company. compared to other companies there is definitely a lot on offer.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
fortunately i have been signed off to the next level of BA which is a real achievement for me and i am excited to go back perhaps into a different area of the business and explore the career opportunities there.
The Culture
at the start there was a lot going on however with the busy lifestyle and way of the company this was easily lost throughout the year.
living in london is really expensive however thankfully though the pay wasn't loads it was a good enough wage to live off and still be able to enjoy and shop/socialize.
i did not often attend nightlife in this area but there is a lot going on in Camden.
it was really good to socialise and make the most of supplier events throughout the year as it was a good opportunity for the stress to be released from the team and go and do something fun and different.
