The Role
Dstl gave their placement students opportunities to get involved in work that interested them. I found the work i was given interesting and it gave me insight into other departments and how a company works as a whole
Colleagues treated me with respect just like another full time employee. They made sure i understood the task i had to do and made it so i could always ask for help if needed.
i had weekly meeting with my team leader to talk over the work i had, how i was getting on with it and whether there were any issues i had
there were days where i had nothing to do but these were the days where either the person i was working with wasn't in or my team leader was on annual leave so couldn't arrange more work for me.
i was given as mush responsibility as a full time employee, sometimes more.
doing a placement year improved my communication skills, time management skills and organisation skills which will be invaluable for my final year at university
The Company
Everyone was really friendly and helpful in the office i worked in
the placement year was organised very well. the first day was an induction day where we got our passes sorted found out more about the organisation and the departements we were working in
All the work undertook gave personal training and development in the terms of note taking, time keeping and organisation

The Culture
yes, we all became friends and met up regularly outside of work for movie/gaming nights
i worked at the site in kent so lived in greater london due to this is was an expensive place to live and go out and socialise while trying to save as much money as possible
living in greater london meant it was easy just to catch a train into london for the night which is always good for a night out
