The Role
I got a good variety of different projects, with plenty of responsibility from the outset. It also felt rewarding to be doing graduate-level work.
It was not only me learning from my colleagues, they also came to me to ask questions about my field of knowledge, and my team was fantastic.
I was supported throughout the year and helped to achieve all the objectives I had set myself at the start of the placement.
There was always work to be done!
As previously mentioned, I was performing graduate level work just the same as many of my colleagues, and I was always trusted to go away and do my work without being scrutinised at any point.
My time at Dstl has left me with valuable experience that will serve me well for my future career wherever I go, as well as the training invested in me and the confidence I built in my own abilities from the work I undertook.
The Company
Open plan office!
As it is a formal scheme, it is very well run/structured.
Dstl invested in me through both relevant training with industry, as well as internal development opportunities.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Above 25 days holiday
There is certainly the potential for me to return in the future!
The Culture
Although being the only placement student within my team (which is fairly normal), I soon met and made friends with students through sporting clubs and internal development events. Social events were organised, and you can of course, arrange your own plans too!
Moderate!
I must admit, I didn't try the nightlife in the local area.
There is a vast range of clubs, societies and other events going on which you can get involved with (both through Dstl, or local sports clubs etc).
