About You
I learnt a lot about the company and the different roles that are offered to their graduate employees and also the progression possibilities available to you once employed.
From the moment I arrived I felt very comfortable and welcomed and nothing was to much trouble and all of the staff and employees that I spoke to were only to happy to help.
Throughout the day I was constantly guided through the different tasks and activities but not "spoon fed" and the timetable I was given ran through perfectly.
I have learned a lot about areas to now concentrate on in my degree programme and what the particular areas I want to focus on are. Also the session at the end of the day that discussed the application process and interview techniques will be useful at all times in the future.
The Company
The timetable we were given ran almost perfectly but due to a slightly late start some parts of the schedule over ran or were cut short.
Everything in the day I found useful, interactive and stimulating and the whole time the atmosphere was very relaxed.
As it was only a one day event it was more of an information gathering opportunity.
Having spoken to people that are currently employed by BP I had a very good understanding of what their roles are and what is expected of them from the company.
The 5 important values of the company; Safety, Respect, Excellence, Courage and One Team, were all displayed and mentioned constantly throughout the day with much emphasis.
It gave me a good idea of what a career of a geologist in a large exploration company would be like.
Everything Else
All of my travel was prepaid for by a travel company.
I got to meet some employees of the company from various professional backgrounds within the company.
Only one hour was allocated to this and this meant a bit of a rush to speak to everyone that I wished to.
They did not really talk about anything outside of the work environment only travelling as part of work to other countries around the world.
Definitely to gain an understanding of what a professional does within such a large company and understand the values and ethos of a large international company.
