    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement at the firm, it gave me a real insight into the audit sector and the work that needs to be completed. I was useful that I could apply the knowledge I have gained from my degree but also learn new things which I can apply on my return to university.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was given much responsibility by the team as soon as I started my internship which was great as I felt like a valued member of the team. I was given work by the team that a first year trainee would be given and therefore it was challenging but the staff were always happy to help and advise me where I was unsure.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was assigned a line manager which would answer any queries I may have had and also advised me on the work I was completing. Feedback was also given on my work through a midway and final appraisal so I could assess my performance and improve on some areas if necessary.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was always plenty of work for me to complete, as this was a busy period for the public sector audit team with the audit of the accounts and also grant claims. If there was any time where I had no set tasks I would work on my presentation topic, which I presented to managers at the end of my placement.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given much responsibility by the team from my very first day as an intern, completing the necessary testing of the clients accounts, to determine if a true and fair view of the organisation is shown. I was always given relevant work to do which made me feel as though I was making a difference.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As I have never actually studied auditing in my degree I found this work placement very useful as it has broadened my knowledge of accountancy and will allow me to use this new knowledge in my last year at university.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Even though everyone in the office was very hardworking they were all very friendly and welcoming, making the atmosphere relaxed.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement was organised well giving me the maximum exposure to clients and the audit work. I was also able to spend some time in the other departments, such as tax, which gave me a real insight to the firm as a whole. The placement also gave me the opportunity to visit London on many occasions for training and a corporate responsibility day.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested a lot of time in my training and development, especially as I took part in a 2 day presentation skills course at their 'Bradenham manor. Being someone who does not enjoy public speaking I was particularly nervous about this course however I was made relaxed and fun and it was also a great chance to meet the interns from other offices. Having completed the course I feel more confident as a person and am less nervous about giving presentations.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was very pleased to secure a graduate role with the firm in the commercial audit sector, which I will start next year after my final year at university.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Being the only intern in the Cardiff office I really appreciated the time I got to spend with the other interns at the corporate responsibility day in London and also at Bradenham. It was a great opportunity to mix with the other interns and learn about their experiences. I also developed a good relationship with the Bristol office intern as the two offices are connected in their work.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The office is close to town and also has some pubs and shops near by.It is relatively cheap to live in Cardiff.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The office has easy access into the city centre, its about a 5 minute drive into town.
