The Role
Had a lot of freedom in developing my assigned projects, in terms of research, contacting suppliers, chemical formulation and experiment design and execution, as well as sensory testing and data compilation.
Very welcoming and helpful colleauges; wonderful department. Very lovely, supportive, people.
Very supportive and helpful managerial staff, from line manager to the Global Director (Polishes).
Very busy most of the time. There is a considerable workload.
Quite a lot for a student. Given significant freedom in development of assigned projects.
Invaluable skills in terms of time management, experement design, research, experience in business relations with suppliers and manufacturers, consultants, marketing representitives, etc. Whole sphere of areas of gained expertise, as well as a good chemical background in colloid (emulsion) chemistry.
The Company
Professional but fun and relaxed. Everyone was very friendly and at ease with eachother, but also very focused on their work.
The placement was organised well. The additional work for university was difficult, but doable. The placement at the company was very well organised.
I was invited to participate in some training programmes and courses, but many were not available to me as a student.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Employement is possible, but as with any company, it depends on the person and the whether they fit the job description. But good reccomendations carry weight.
The Culture
Friendly students, who went out regularly. Colleagues were very fun as well. A lot of young people work there, so there is always a good social scene.
Moderate. Not London though.
Not bad, quite a few good clubs/bars/pubs throughout the city.
If you could find time to sign up to things like the gym, but that wasn't always possible.
