The Role
Fantastic summer placement, was very sad to leave at the end. Was part of a great team, never a boring day in the office/lab.
Was working on genuinely important pieces of work for my team which they all appreciated a lot.
Supported all the way through, was always someone there to answer any of my questions whether they were about the work I was doing, about the company or advice on careers fir the future.
Was constantly working on my summer project ( always made time for cup of tea and a chat with some biscuits though ). Was on flexi time so as long as I worked 37 hours a week it didn't matter if you did 9 hours one day and 6 the next as long as the 37 was done which was fantastic for going for weekends away and leaving at lunch time on a Friday
Was allowed full access to the lab and all the equipment I needed, was working with a graduate so wasn't too daunting and also made settling in much easier.
Definitely became much more confident in the lab and my programming skills have improved, also learnt a lot of the stuff which will be in the upcoming modules.
The Company
A great atmosphere, always relaxed, always having a laugh with the team.
They had a project in mind for me to work on over the summer, proposed it to me when I got there and ran with it from there. If I ever got stuck with what to do someone had a new task at hand so was never sat around with nothing to do
Was always given the reins on my project so was like being a full time employee, the guidance was always there if I needed it
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Have been told I'm welcome back
The Culture
Saw other students every day even though they were in a different team, the company are setting up more student social events for next summer
Living and socialising weren't as bad as i thought considering its in a nice area in the south
Salisbury night-life isn't amazing but Thursday is student night and that was much busier than expected
Went to quite a few pub lunches with work and a team day out to a country house for a picnic in the grounds with everyone's families
