The Role
Loved it. As with any job there will be times of stress but overall I really enjoyed my year with ASOS.
I changed teams a quarter of the way through, but even so both teams were great. Teams tend to be quite close knit, often finding ways to socialise away from the desk. Was made to feel very welcome and appreciated, leading me to tears on my final day!
There is always someone to lend you a hand and share some knowledge if you need it, but using your initiative is a key skill if you want to succeed! Don't be afraid to ask questions, but don't be afraid try before you do!
This can vary per department, but in generally it is a very fast paced and intense working environment. On rare occasions there will be periods of quietness, but even then you can always find something to do. Otherwise, as long as you can balance you're own workload and are organised you'll be fine. Late nights working are rare, but sometimes necessary.
I changed departments and experiences a variance in responsibility levels. But once I had settled into the department I was able to ask for a greater workload. Again, this will depend on your own capabilities but if you make a point to work and prove you are able, they'll surely give you more responsibility. There's always plenty of work so they're happy for people to take on more tasks.
Uni provided the theory behind the job and allowed me to have a basic understanding of a buying role. But there is nothing like hands on experience. I definitely feel prepared for the working world and ten times more knowledgeable in preparation for final year. They give a series of training sessions and you're free to sign up to any extra sessions.
The Company
It's a very welcoming office and everyone is sociable. However it is also very busy, and people are constantly going, running a around the office.
The internship was set up well. You receive training, support and mentoring from the beginning. The handover at the beginning between interns could be set up better and given more time, but overall it was good.
Training is received from the beginning and you can sign up to any further training sessions.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Very appealing. I would definitely go back.
The Culture
It's easy to make friends with fellow interns and there are plenty of places to go out and meet up in the area. There are also work events which give you a chance to meet up.
The cost of living was not extortionate, 680pw. Plenty of eating places and cafés, bars etc. and it's central so easy to get to places further out.
Nightlife is also good. Based in Camden so plenty of options. Not too expensive either.
They encourage a few fitness focused activities in relation to fundraising etc.
