    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed the internship at C&W. I have experienced a wide range of the work involved within the agency department and also learnt a huge amount from the team I was in.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Working at C&W has been excellent. The team I was in got me involved with many of their corporate projects. I was tasked with work that will be used to make final decisions about new locations for client’s industrial units. I undertook cash flow forecasts used in client meetings. I felt very valued.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • On several occasions managing partners took me on site visits. I was often set work by management figures as well as them offering me advice and demonstrating useful ways to conduct my work. I have been able to gain a lot from the guidance and support offered to me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had something to be getting on with. I keep a ‘to do’ list and I was continually adding to it. The team ensured I had worked to do that was interest and something different to previous tasks. Whilst at Cushman’s the days went extremely quickly, which I think is a good sign that I was busy.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt I was given a reasonable quantity of responsibility considering the nature of the work that surveyors’ undertake. Much of the work I was set was for corporate clients. For example I undertook property searches reporting back to the clients and producing cash flow forecasts for international clients.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working at Cushman’s this past month has built a platform for me going into my degree course. Obtaining knowledge and expertise from the agency team at C&W has been extremely valuable. My understanding of the property industry, market place and business relationships has been enriched. The C&W surveyors have been great and I have learned a lot from them!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was good. There is an underlying current of being work driven however with a relaxed ambiance. People were often having casual conversations. Everyone was very friendly and interest in what I was doing and had planned for after the internship had finished

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The HR team is very clued up and had a briefing meeting ready for when I started. I was always kept updated with the outlook calendar.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • No investment has been spent on my development or personal training but I have been given a huge amount of support and guidance from the team I was placed in. The team went out of their way to ensure I was busy and involved. I have developed my personal skills such as communicating over the phone through the responsibility given to me.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love the opportunity to work at C&W and become a qualified chartered surveyor through their graduate program. I have gained a great insight into what it would be like to work at C&W and I hope that I have made the right impression for a possible job offer or be put further through their recruitment process.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was good. Unfortunately I was the only intern at the Birmingham office due to Cushman’s making alternative arrangements for me otherwise I would have been able to socialize with the other intern. However, I always invited to social occasions with my colleagues.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Compared to London, being in Birmingham is a lot less expensive. Socializing has not been very expensive and I was able to commute from home reducing the overall cost. I was paid though which helped subsidise my travel and work socials.

    5/5

  • Great nightlife. Loads of bars and nightclubs. I recomend jam house!
