    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with Accenture. This placement provided me with the opportunity to fufill the same responsibilities and day-to-day role as an Analyst, which therefore provided an invaluable insight into working for Accenture. This role was able to provide a new challenge each and everyday, which allowed for a wide variety of skills/competencies to be developed. Not only this, but also I was able to work alongside a fantastic team who are willing to share their experience and advice with you thorughout your time at the company.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the very first day I was given an important role with meaningful tasks, which immediately made me feel valued by my colleagues. This value increased dramatically as I was given more and more responsibility throughout my placement, which encompassed more critical and demanding tasks. Overall, I was given the opportunity to undertake a role with the same responsibility as the rest of the project team, which really made me feel like a valued member of the team. This value can be extended outside of the workplace, by taking part in various networking events with colleagues outside of working hours.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Both my managers and supervisor were willing to give support at any time and no matter how busy they were. My supervisor often checked in with me, in order to offer support or guidance with any issues. However, the work that you are delegated at Accenture provides the opportunity to use your own initiative to solve problems and reach a conclusion. Therefore, I always aimed to complete all work set independently, and then consult with my manager/supervisor for their input on the finished product. I found this to be the most effective method of self-development and also for the most beneficial feedback. However, if there was ever a point when I required support, there was always a member of the team willing to provide the necessary advice.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Personally, I was extremely busy on a daily basis, as I had a number of tasks that I was responsible for. However, this is the way that I like to work. As my placement progressed, I desired more and more responsibility as a result of the genuine interest that I had in the project work. There is always the opportunity to ask for more responsibility and contrastingly, there is always someone to talk to if you cannot manage your workload. Therefore, I would conclude that this role is able to proide the perfect balance of workload.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From the very first day, I was given pertinent tasks that contributed to each and every step of the project lifecycle. I was given the opportunity to ask for more responsibility throughout my placement, which enabled me to take on new challenged on a daily basis. I have found that there is always work that can be done. Therefore, if you ever require more responsibility, you can always ask a colleague if they require assistance with any work that they are undertaking. This will enable you to increase your responsibility and always develop your skillset by contributing to work, which addresses all aspects of the delivery lifecycle.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that the skills that I have developed throughout my placement at Accenture will help massively in my future degree studies and even further when working in a graduate role. For example, the Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint skills that I have developed will be invaluable in future degree projects and data analysis contributing to dissertation research. Not only this, but also, the communication and leadership skills that you have developed will help when applying for graduate roles and also when undertaking a graduate job once you graduate. Overall, I believe that each and every skill that I have developed throughout my internship; from problem-solving and networking to technical and presentation skills; will assist me in every future venture that I pursue.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I have never worked in a better atmosphere than in the office that I was based. Everyone was extremely friendly and offered to share their experience and advice whenever it was required. Every member of the team was very close, which created an incomparable team spirit both in and out of the workplace. Each and every member of the team was willing to work hard and help the greater utilitarian cause of the project, which I found to be inspiring. There was also the opportunity to attend various networking events with colleagues, which allowed me to get to know each individual better. The general atmosphere felt like one big family, where everyone was looking out for one another.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall work placement was organised perfectly, from the intial training week to the project placement. Every aspect of the placement was considered and important information was always provided to you when it was required. I believe that the organisation of the scheme was faultless and a great strength of the overall Accenture package.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe that Accenture invested a lot in terms of personal training and developement. The scheme began with a week long training week, which involved numerous interesting activities, allowing for the devlopment of key skills/competencies. This training also provided the necessary pre-requisite for the project placement. Whilst based on a project, the training and development never stopped, both through online courses and objective setting, which ensured focus throughout the placement.

  • Future employment prospects are extremely appealing within Accenture. The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, when there was the opportunity. We would try to organise a social gathering at least once a week, however, this was not always possible with people being placed on different projects in different locations.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • If you are used to living in London, then it is fine. However, if you are not from London (like myself), then I found the price of living quite a bit more expensive that living outside of London. There are still plenty of opportunities to socialise. However, I believe that it is definitely worth living in London, as you will grow to love the city. At first, I found London to be a little overwhelming, however, when it came to the end of my placement, I was very sad to be leaving London.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Having attended social events with colleagues and fellow interns, I believe that there is the nightlife to suit whatever it is that you are looking for (from quieter bars to more lively venues).

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. Every week I took part in the weekly football social. Accenture offer opportunities within a number of number sports and activities, ranging from Basketball to Rock Climbing. Whatever it is that you are interested in, Accenture provide an opportunity for everyone to get involved.
