    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall, the placement is extremely enjoyable. Giving an opportunity to work across a number of stores as a valued member of the management team. There are highs and lows as you would imagine. But overall it has been an enjoyable experience.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I enjoyed working with all of my colleagues and felt a valued member of the senior management team at all times.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Every manager I worked with would give open and honsest feedback in order for me to improve. Nothing has been too much trouble for them and the support network within the store has been fantastic.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were times earlier on when I didn't know what to do with myself. However as you get more into the placement the responsiblity grows - along with your job list. At no ppint did I feel this was unachievable however it was certainly a stretch.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Initially you spend your time learning the job and shadowing management. However as your confidence and ability grows, your responsibility does too. You will be left to cover departments over holidays and this is a fantastic opportunity to show exactly what you can do, as the commercial manager.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the skills I have learnt here will be useful throughout my career. Being assessd on competencies allows you to really adapt yourself to the diverse roles on offer in store. The training scheme is well respected in the industry and will be useful when returning to uni in my final year.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Overall, the office atmosphere is positive, everybody gets along and you feel welcomed from day one. At times, it may become a bit more stressful - however that is the nature of the job!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement is deliberately structured in quite a flexible way. This allows you to get the most from the placement without being constained to anything more than guidelines around the overall programme.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was fully encouraged to undertake as many courses as possible gaining invaluable off the job trainig. In turn, the training and development provided by commercial managers in the store is fantastic. There is an opportunity to learn whatever you want. However what is clear is that your development is driven by you - not the management team. If you dont put yourself forward then you will not be exposed to the full level of opportunity.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • A clear sign off process is in place from day one so you know exactly what to work towards. This leads to trainees being assesed on their performance to return following the completion of university. The career prospects are vast and there are many examples of senior leaders within the organisation having completed similar schemes to this.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, we would regularly socialise with peers and would have an opportunity on training courses to meet up with people from a wider geographical area.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cardiff is a cheap city to live and work!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Cardiff has a lot to offer in terms of nightlife.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are opportunities to make use of charity days etc. and there are many sports and social activities to get involved with.
