    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • Very good experience. Long hours but many things to learn.

    • Team is ok, of course you will get some colleagues becoming friends, closer than other colleagues.

    • Guidance is given more on a hands-on manner by colleagues.

    • Extremely busy in IBD, however not bored. Constantly new deals came in or models need tweaking.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • Except facing a client, I got to work at every detail of the book. The experience is very rewarding, and makes me feel that I achieved something.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • Comparing to the university years, investment banking teaches me more practical stuff. Knowledge goes a long way with you, skills to acquire knowledge go even further.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Neutral, however working hours are long and intensive, you won't pay attention to office atmosphere anyway.

    • HR and Citi Employee Service are superb!

    • The training is based on a hands-on approach. Do some work, make corrections and improvements, get to learn something at the end.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    • Investment banking is only good if you like it. An internship probably gives a taste of how things are. But at the end, one still has to face the question: is this something you want to do on a full-time basis? If yes, congratulations, IBD here needs talents. If no, don't worry, life goes on, there are other department here and outside. An IBD internship is always something to show on the CV.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • Interns get along very well.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • Cost is high, in terms of money and time. I'd rather sleep more to coup with hours.

    • No comments for myself, but there are plenty of bars in canary wharf.

    • Seems didn't get a chance on external activities.
