The Role
Thoroughly enjoyable. Great variety of work gave an insight into day to day life here. Good working atmosphere
Some of the tasks took longer as they were new to me, but I never felt like a hindrance and was often told when I'd been particularly helpful
Also supported by colleagues of all levels of seniority.
Always had something to be getting on with, 6 week project was a very useful fall back.
I undertook lots of activities that were chargeable to clients. Getting involved in reporting and valuations made me feel like I was contributing
Great exercise in time management, spreadsheet design, general problem-solving. More specifically, overviews of Pensions actuarial work will be useful in a future career
The Company
This was probably my favourite aspect of the internship. Got the opportunity to work for lots of different people. The office in general was very welcoming and friendly.
Each intern was placed in a Actuarial team with a mentor figure and a manager. Most of the work came from colleagues within the team, but we were also encouraged to go looking for work amongst the other teams. A couple of training days at the beginning were a decent introduction to the business and Pensions.
2 x half days of training at the start of the internship.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Waiting to hear back from Recruitment shortly after the internship ends
The Culture
Only 3 interns in my office. But we became friends pretty quickly and joined in on office events. Got the chance to meet the Guildford interns and went for thai food/to the pub on Assessment Day.
Somewhere between London and the North. To be expected!
Mostly pub culture in Wokingham, but nearby Reading provided decent nightlife.
At least weekly there was something different: 10k runs, pub trips, restaurants, go karting, golf, poker, pizza. Very sociable
