    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Over the six weeks, I had the opportunity to experience a variety of things and there was so much to get involved in. The work was fun and interesting and the people were all really nice.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • During my internship I was able to work with most of the members of my department, from trainees to partners. They were all eager to get me involved, often giving me a lot of responsibility. They also ensured that the work was interesting and that I would learn from the experience.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was really supportive and would always answer any questions that I had. I was also always given useful feedback.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For most of the internship I was kept busy doing numerous tasks for various team members to certain deadlines. Towards the end of my internship, there were some occasions, when I did run out of work and no-one had work to give. I used this time, however, to carry out my own research.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was doing work that would then be used by more senior members, such as writing letters to HMRC and clients, doing tax computations and also research. I also would send emails and make calls on behalf of senior team members.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was able to develop my communication skills in formal settings (whilst in the office) and informal settings (during the social events). The presentation skills course has also provided me with skills that I will be able to use in the future.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Though everyone in the office worked hard, it was a really relaxed atmosphere. Everyone was really approachable and friendly.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised and it ensured that we had the opportunity to experience all aspects of working for Grant Thornton.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The interns were sent to a two day Presentation Skills training course, which was a lot of fun and really useful. Throughout the internship, my colleagues were always keen to ensure that I was given work which would allow me to develop my skills and also learn more about the workplace.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have accepted the offer of a graduate role within the firm.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were many events organised for the interns within the two London offices, which allowed us to get to know each other well. We also would organise events outside of work, which at least half of the interns would attend. We also had opportunities to meet members of other departments and senior members outside of work. Events such as the Corporate Responsibility day and the Presentation Skills course allowed us to meet the national interns.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Most of the social events were paid for by the firm, which was good. There wasn't much of a living cost for me as I stayed at home, but travel was fairly expensive.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Outside of work, there were many activities to get involved in, such as the JP Morgan run and a networking session at Nabarro.
