About You
Very enjoyable and was given a variety of work from different areas, such as editorial, publushing, marketing and design
The editorial department where I was based were very friendly and included me in their conversations and treated me as if I had been there for longer which made me feel very welcome
I was provided with a timetable for the week with everyone I would meet, and each task I was provided with had a brief. I was given a temporary email address so i could easily communicate with people in case I needed any further guidance, but all my questions were answered by the most appropriate person
Helped develop my writing skills and analytic skills. I am nkw also better a le to express my opinions and ideas and can form them in a more methodical manner
The Company
Everything was so well organised. I had my own desk and an email account where I was sent more infirmstion or I could forward my research on to the appropriate person. I was able to see all departments related to the publishing of a book, and was able to speak to people who focus on different books eg academic, textbooks etc
Whenever there were breaks, the editorial department were very chatty and friendly, though I foud the signs around the office asking people to keep the noise down a little patronising and therefore the atmosphere was often just silence
They provided me with genuine work as some of it was what thry had been putting off themselves, so I was able to develop my skills as a book editor very quickly
A broad range of work was provided and I was given some of the less interesting tasks as well, showing me the genuine bredth of the type of work they do. As thry gave me some talss they had been putting off, i was able to see the real work they do, rather than just what was good
Being able to sit in cross-continental meetings via webcam was helpful in seeing the company culture as a whole, and talking to the different departments also made it clear for me
Everything Else
There was a shuttle service provided by the company for which I was reimbursed, however, I was required to pay my train every day. Personally, i would rather the train was reimbursed and i had to pay for the shuttle
Seeing all the various departments, I was able to get their email addresses at the end to help with my network
I spoke to the departments and I was able to arrange meetings with any sector I was interested in
I saw many extra activities available on notice boards and the company seemed to do alot for its employees in terms of well being
I wasn't sure if I would be interested in publishing, but this opportunity was so well organised that I gained a genuine insight into the company and showed me the possibilities I have at the end of my degree
