About You
Really interesting and informative - different departmental talks nearly everyday which were a really good way to learn about areas of law other than where you were sitting. Interesting and relevant activities outside of the office arranged as well.
Everyone at every level from partners to trainees to the receptionists are extremely friendly, interested and approachable. People genuinely want you to have a good experience. Given real work to do by trainees, associates and partners.
Assigned both a supervisor (associate or partner) who you tend to sit with or near and a trainee buddy in each departments. Introduced to people in the department and other trainees who are all approachable and happy to answer questions/help.
Great insight into the two departments I sat in - which I have never experienced before, and hope to do a seat in at least one, if not both, during my training contract which I wouldn't have known beforehand!
The Company
Good opportunity to meet different people across the firm and fee earners attended social events. Time to be in departments as well as other activities.
Really enjoyable, learnt a lot and met some great people both those on the scheme and in the firm itself.
We sat in two different departments, a week in each, and for both we were given a supervisor and a trainee buddy. Talks were arranged almost every day about different practice areas in the firm and lasted 30 minutes - an hour depending on how many questions we had. Opportunity to meet other people in the firm at arranged events and during the day - people came over to ask how you were etc.
Trainees, associates and partners were honest about the work (both good and bad) and hours. You were given real work which was representative of that done by trainees.
Small trainee intake so could really see the dynamic and see how friendly the firm as a whole was.
Everything Else
£300 per week for two weeks
Events were arranged by HR and people came over to speak to you voluntarily. Friendly and approachable atmosphere where it was clear that you could go and speak to people and ask questions.
Enjoyable and easy to talk to people. Pizza making was a lot of fun and definitely broke the ice.
People were happy to talk about pro bono and sports they did outside of work, and reasonable working hours allow people to have hobbies etc. A number of people took part in a run during the placement.
Really enjoyable, learnt a lot and extremely welcoming and interesting people.
